MAN

Yes, it should be obvious - I fuckin’ love Vivienne Westwood. Mostly her Pirate’s look for World’s End and Seditionaries, but pretty much all of her collections. I really like MAN, and I’m lucky enough to own a shirt from that collection. It’s brilliant, and I simply must show it off. I’ve actually had it a while now, meaning two weeks or so, but I’m a slacker and haven’t posted here in forever, but now I will!

Front:
Vivienne Fuckin' Westwood.

Back:
I own Westwood!

And then I go searching to see if I can find pictures from the MAN collections and find out she’s got a new collection out this year, and I must say, this piece is to die for - Soo Catwoman! (all the others are brilliant as well, check out Westwood’s site for the complete set.)

Eyebrows

ALIEN!How quickly this blog turned to Me Me Me! At least, that is, when I get around to posting, which sadly is rare, but I’m trying to stop procrastinating so much! But still, me, me, me. It’s like I’m turning into Tyra or something. Anyhoo, I bleached my eyebrows! It was really quite an easy thing to do, and painting them in every morning creates a wonderful look. I don’t think I’d ever be brave enough to shave them off, although someday - maybe. But for now, bleaching them has been quite nice for me, I really like the way it works. Who knows, maybe it’ll be the next big them - bleached and painted eyebrows. Ha! I wish. I do love my alien white eyebrows though. (they aren’t actually that color, it was white face paint. If only I could bleach my hair to be perfectly white!)

Bondage

Cross posted at just-nick.net.
I would like, if I may, to take you on a journey.

Muslin Bondage shirt (wait til you see the buttons!)Or, you know, show off this lovely shirt I sewed today. It’s simple - Muslin Bondage in the style of Westwood’s Sex or Sedionaries. I haven’t silkscreened it, it was basically a practice run. But brilliant it turned out!

Here is a full view (click both pictures for larger). Fairly simple, long sleeves, long shirt. I didn’t bother with bumflaps, I don’t really like them, nor am I some crazy Punk Enthusiast.

Shoulder Buttons/Epaulets were a stroke of genius (my head was too big for the hole.)My head wouldn’t fit through the hole as I had it pinned! Oh noes! What was a girl to do! Well first, I sewed up one shoulder, and put together this insanely awesome Epaulet-ish shoulder button strap thing Westwood had straps across the collarbone, but I love the way this works - it’s almost a Chinese (or japanese? One of those far east places) shoulders, except they don’t use it as the actual buttons, it’s more of a bib-shirt type attachment. (I love Bib shirts!)

It turned out amazing, I’m going to get more fabric as it took more than I thought it would, and produce bunches more - complete with silkscreen - to sell.

Hats

I love Hats. Very. very much. Very expensive hats, very cheap hats, hats from goodwills and hats you make yourself. I love Philip Treacy who does Boy George’s and Stephen Jones from the London New Romantic scene, who makes hats for the likes of Galliano, as well as Boy George. I especially love customising hats. I <3 Boy George’s B-Rude hats he’s been wearing. Philip Treacy hats with Cockroaches and Beatles and Safety Pins sequined on top. And I love this hat of mine.

There's a Bowery on my head!I got it at a “black old church lady” store. A bunch of old Baptist Black Ladies, and how odd it was when they saw me come in to get this hat! Just a cheap little hat, fourty bucks I think, but very customizable - I stick anything in it! Safety pin trolls and dolls on, or pictures and silkscreened fabric. Currently it’s got a lovely blue foam Leigh Bowery silkscreened with black and glitter. I really love this hat very much.

Valentine’s Day

Merry Lupercalia Heathen Breathren! It’s not really related to this blog at all, but happy Lupercalia, or as the Pope changed it to, Valentine’s Day! Have a merry Sacrificing, or whatever you do today! And most of all, have a lovely day period. And please, if possible, wear too much makeup. It just makes it all the more special.

Chris March

Have I ever told you how much I love Chris March from Project Runway?I know I barely mentioned him in the last post, but it’s true. I love him. He’s amazing. He’s my favourite this year and every year. Yes, even more then Scarlet, Santino, and Jeffrey. That Avant Garde super costume he made with Christian was supremely awesome. I thought it was very much the best thing this show has every created, followed closely by Jeffrey’s Green Stripe Yellow Zipper trimmed dress from Bryant Park last year.

Anyways, Good luck to Chris on Project Runway. I’m slow, but I think it’s coming to an end soon and I hope you win!

Bobble!

Make it work, people. It’s the Tim Gunn Bobblehead! I can’t really say how much I love Tim Gunn (and Project Runway! Gotta love Chris!) but this bobblehead would be a great start to show my love. I’d put it on top of my TV, of course, and it would shout “Make it work!” all day long. I would love it so very much. Someone please give me lots of money so I can buy it, lol. Stay tuned to this blog, though. I know I’ve been lazy and haven’t updated in two months, but I swear I’ll start writing on it now. A fashion blog that gets updated regularly? Amazing! Anyhoo, I’ll be back! (maybe even later today)

Lack of Updates and Sequins

Sorry about the lack of updates. Don’t know why I get so behind on things sometimes! Anyhoo, say hello to Leigh Bowery.

I have a question to ask, does anyone know an easy way to sequin? I currently do a double-through-the-hole stitch (what a bad name for a stitch! is there a real name?) and it takes so long. Leigh’s whole outfit is stitched, and that would take FOREVER!

I’ve looked for sequin fabric, but i can’t come up with much, and sequin trim would cost too much. How sad!

Anyone know anything?

Also, I’ll hopefully be updating this at least once every few days. I don’t know why I can never keep up with my projects!

B-Rude

Nicola Bowery modelling Boy George's B-RudeMy severe love for Boy George and his friends is hardly a secret. He’s utterly amazing! Singer, DJ, and Fashion designer extraordinaire. So this is a post on how much I love his fashion label, B-Rude. As you can see by the picture on the left, it’s thankfully very strange. Another nice bit about the picture on the left, that’s Leigh Bowery’s wife Nicola modeling for George in September. The headpiece is all hers, but everything else was done by George or Mike Nichols. They’ve had a few shows, you can check out pictures here, here, here, and here. A simple google search will bring up so much more, and it’s really worth it.

He’s got his own shop in London, I’d love to go but alas, no money. The Official site is here, but it’s not very exciting. But at this site you can buy clothes (too expensive for poor old me, but I’m so jealous of anyone who has the sequined blood shirt) Also on that site you can view videos of the fashion shows, which is very worth doing.

I really love Boy George’s B-Rude, and hope it’s here to stay with many more awesome creations. If only mainstream fashion would wake-up and see the beauty of this fashion line. Seriously, get rid of some of the crap out today, do we need another track suit?

On the importance of cheapness and beauty

Spider!
Truly, I never intended the title of this post to be a take on Boy George’s Cheapness and Beauty. But hey, it works, so whatever!

Anyways, on to cheapness and beauty -

I would absolutely kill to have a makeup budget that allowed me to buy only MAC cosmetics and fifteen bucks a shade. But I don’t, so I get the cheap stuff. You know it works absolutely fine, if not better than some expensive stuff.

I shop mostly at Walgreens - ’cause that’s absolutely where you’re going to find the cheapest stuff. Even Wal-Mart is more expensive than walgreens in the makeup department. Anyways, when you get to the cosmetics, bypass everything you see until you get to the end. Either end. One one end is usually brushes and glues and eyelashes, and on the other end is usually the cheap stuff. Jane and Wet ‘n Wild. I love these two to death! They don’t have the best colors in the world, for that you need to head to the internet, but when you need black, white, and neutral colors like blue you can’t beat them in cheapness. Plus they go on really, really well. If only Jane came out with MAC type colors. But for that, you must head to the internet.

Faith Bowie (evil tramp) absolutely swears by ELF, she’s all, “Nick, blahblahblah, ELF, I eat babies!” I still haven’t bought from them, but who knows, evil people can be right too, and Faith usually is. They do have some nice colors, and the brushes are absolutely amazing. I really should get some of them, little foam Walgreens pieces of shit don’t work for long periods of time. Anyways, for the real color I ALWAYS (always being the one time I’ve bought makeup online) head to Cherry Culture. Seriously, they’re slogan is “Enter the world of color” What can possibly be bad about them? Liquid Eyeliner in every color, Eyeshadow to die for, lipstick, lip stain, rouge, lip gloss, eyebrow stencils! It’s a Boy’s paradise! I bought this 84 eyeshadow palette - and for only fifteen dollars! Amazing! Plus, they always have a Buy One Get One Free going, along with many other specials. And they send you free Cherry Lip Gloss no matter what. What’s not to love? Check out their NYX collection. Especially the eyeshadow. Colors that rival MAC for under three dollars. I love cheapness!

Before I actually bought any real eyeshadow, I used chalk. Craft chalk, the kind Rubber Stampers use. It was quite pathetic, but I doubt if MAC has half the colors that chalk comes in. I still use it from time to time, which is sad really. But hey, if you need a bright yellow, and noone has it but chalk, you gotta do what you gotta do!

TOO MUCH MAKEUP! (never!)
So Cheap Beauty really does work. That’s my entire makeup collection, as of now, and it’s probably no more than fifty dollars worth. Which is quite amazing, for the amount I have.

This has been a very, very random rant on cheap makeup, it doesn’t really mean much, but I hope I’ve told you something you didn’t know. Or at least enlightened you on Cheap Makeup a bit.
